By Bus:
- Beijing's Liuliqiao Bus Station (六里桥长途汽车站) on Beijing's southwest side. The closest subway station is Gongzhufen on Line 1 (it's a 2-3 km walk). Price is about 85 RMB and the trip should take 3 hours. Buses depart starting around 6 am and continue until the late afternoon.
- Beijing's Sihui Bus Station (四惠长途汽车站) near Sihui subway station on line 1. Price is 85 RMB (including highway toll) and the trip should take 3 hours. Buses depart starting around 6 am and continue until the late afternoon.
- There are overnight sleeper buses servicing Tianjin-Chengde, Shijiazhuang-Chengde, and Shenyang-Chengde. There are also several buses between Qinghuangdao and Chengde. Please check in your respective city for departure times and location.
*Note on buses: Buses often drop passengers off at Chengde's long distance bus station. From there, take a taxi to the hostel (about 20 RMB) or take bus 1 or 29 to Xinjuzhai (新居宅). See

By Hired Car: It is possible to take a shared taxi (known as a "Black Car," 黑车 in Chinese) from Beijing to Chengde. The car is shared by 4 passengers and the price is usually around 150 RMB/ person. The trip takes about 2-3 hours. Ask your hotel or hostel in Beijing for information on finding a black car.
